I finished 6th in the Langport 10K today in 33.05, which is OK given my fitness and injury woes. The race started at a fast (but sensible) pace, very early on I settled into 6th and stayed there for the rest of the race. In the past I would have been tempted to try to stay with the leading group of three (Steve Galliene, Shaun Antell and Luke Scott), but not these days. I haven't seen Shaun run much before, he's certainly useful over 10K!

Mark Jenkin was just ahead of me, that's a good enough pace for me, and Leeds runner Mike Burrett was with us. I kept with them for the first few K, and had them easily in sight for most of the race. In the second half of the race Luke drifted back from the leading two, ending up in 5th and Mark got stronger eventually finishing 3rd - the first two were out of my sight by then - but in the internet age Steve Galliene posted his winning time of 31.39 on Facebook.

It was good to see Nathan (35.24) and Kieron (36.20) running, and the Young family enjoying the day. Simon Anderson (who's probably too quick for 10K) was one of many people from Plymouth, and with more than 400 runners and a fun run it was quite an event.

I've had a torrid time over the last year or more, 33.05 is a vast improvement on my form over the last year. I made a start back with the two club mob matches at the Bridge Inn and Towpath, then got back under 16mins with 15.48 at Bitton, ...so there's still lots of room for improvement if my injury worries ease. I'm still struggling with my ankle, and to a lesser extent my back, but it's nothing like it's been. I'll just have to see how things go over the coming months.
