I managed to retain the Wellington 10K today in 33.55 - 20 seconds faster than last year. It's an interesting course, hilly enough to be a slow, but in some ways it suits me as most of the first 3K are fairly straight up hill. I'm not very good at corners these days and I'm sure the much younger athletes, such as Luke Scott who was second, would have been closer to be on other courses.
There's a turn at 3K, and there's more climbing for a little while after that to the highest point of the course - and basically I reckon you've got to work hard all the way "up". The next problem is that there isn't a nice long fast part of the course to get the pedal down, so you end up fighting the course all the way to about 8K - all in all 34 mins is a good effort for me.
Sian isn't quite race fit yet, but still managed to clock up 10 Garmin miles watching Lucy come second overall!!! in the 10 mile race.
...and I found Dave and Matt afterwards to see what team name we can put down for the Axa 5.
