My only running on Monday and Tuesday was four laps of Brussels Park, which with to and from the hotel still took less than 30 mins - never mind. Travelling to business conferences is always disruptive to my training, but it's good to have a few days easy in some ways. It was my first chance to travel on the Eurostar train. There is security and both British and French passport control at St Pancras, but when it comes to stress and confusion, it's just not in the same league as Heathrow. I have to admit I now agree with Stellios at Easijet et al that checked baggage is a major contributor to the hassle. French passport control in London is another plus over flying. It is quite amazing compared to our trains, it takes just over ten minutes to get to Ebbsfleet, you can only join the train there - otherwise the area around the station would just be completely full of unaffordable houses! It takes under half an hour to get through the tunnel and shortly after the train stops in Lille - and I guess that town must have done very well out of it. It only takes two hours to get to Brussels, where you walk off the train, down a few steps and into the centre of town. I hope Eurostar convinces us all that we should be able to get the train to Glasgow, I don't really see that there is a realistic alternative to flying to Faro in my lifetime but we could put our own small island in order. ...but earlier as I left Temple Meads FGW were so intent on not letting any of their demonstrating passengers out, that it was taking so long to get in that I thought I might miss my train - and then when I got into the station the information boards all stopped, is there any more to be said?
