I finished 25th which wasn't too bad really. This was another run that was good in parts, but painful and sickening in others. It's a fast start with a lap of a playing field and I settled down into around the mid twenties. The course includes a hill and a slippery section, and I lost a few places through them and felt very bad up the hill. On the last hill Nigel Stirk motored past me, which made me feel I wasn't doing too badly. I usually improve throughout the race, but at the moment I just hang on and hope. Never the less it was a much improved run compared to last week at Halton. Rob is another person getting back into the swing of things finishing 11th, with Phil W. 8th beginning to make his undoubted ability count. Jon had a good run in 15th - 5 miles on the road at Alsager next week will be more his thing. With Dan M. 32 and Tom K. 47 the team finished a creditable 3rd and won bronze medals. Tim W. was very unfortunate to get covered in mud, but even he wouldn't have given us second place, we were down a few key athletes, but then so were most clubs. Craig won the Junior Men! He ran a very well balanced race, his sensible approach to the ditch must have saved him quite a bit of energy compared with some of the enthusiastic jumps of the other leaders who cleared the water, and he built a 14 sec lead in the later stages of the race. The women finished 3rd, the Junior Men and Women 2nd. The senior and Junior (U20) teams all getting medals is something of an achievement for the club, I'm sure the stats people can find something in that one! .. it was a dry sunny day, the wind wasn't gale force - it all could have been so much worse. ....and Tom McC. has sold 700 copies of the Birchfield calendar - the story seemed to be the WI one all over again - so how much are the film rights worth?
