Jon W. continued his dramatic recent form, holding off Ben N. to win in Victoria Park! Amy won the women's race, Sian was third, and it yet another mediocre Victoria Park run for me, as I finished 8th. It was a strange old race, Simon R. set off up the hill on the first of the five laps, and it was difficult to tell how the pace was going, in excellent running conditions. It was a more than a lap before Jon and Ben started to move away,Jon's been going really well recently, this was another confirmation that he's stepped up a class, Ben's a truly elite athlete, and it was an excellent achievement to stay ahead of him. Jon's time just outside 19.30 was fast as well. In fact Craig finished third, also under 20 mins, the first time that has happened for a long time. Craig was in a group with Pete Grist and Julian E. that went past me around half way. James T. came past a lap or so out and Simon sprinted past on the run in, I'm not sure why I don't seem to run well in Victoria Park, I guess the hill every lap makes it a strong young man's course - that just sounds like an excuse. Strangely I was only a few seconds slower than last year. The womens race was a bit more predictable, Amy was safely in the lead, well clear of Holly Rush who has only just run Berlin, and Sian was safely third. There was good news from the Cross Country relays - although the team of Tim W, Rob, Phil W and Robbie finished seventh and not far behind the medal places, they all ran very similar times so Mike is getting hopeful for the coming months! ...I think it's time to start thinking about whether I have got any realistic chance of running well indoors, as ever the more I look at the fixtures it will be difficult to fit in.
