Robbie B. won the much anticipated Gwent League today, Martin Cox was back in Bath, and he finished fourth, a very good run, there had been some speculation he was fit enough to win, but it's classy at the front of these races at the moment. Rachel Felton was a convincing winner in the womens race. It was one of those solid runs for me, ninth in a Gwent League without completely running eyeballs out seems a good way of doing things to me. I've got a busy first part of next week with work, and I'm not really in the mood at the moment, but strangely that seems to help with cross country, because I don't start too fast and although I slow down a bit towards the end don't usually lose too many places. When things had settled down after a lap or more, I was in tenth, battling with Julian E. a little way behind Ian Williams, and not too far behind Dave B. Olly Shilston and some of the faster boys. In a way the rest was not surprising, Dave was far enough ahead to be away, Olly has improved even since Exeter, but as a youngster lost out towards the end, Julian caught up with Ian and they were battling away, while I just kind of held position. Hopefully I'll have recovered by Thursday and be able to have a shot at the Prom 5 miler. Mick had a good run, and Alec looked fairly comfortable at the finish, I suspect he may be thinking about Belfast next week, they are short fast races these vets internationals, not a good idea to be totally committing to a Gwent League six days before. Sian finished 8th, just ahead of Camilla 11th and Kate G.13th. Sian made her way through the field, looking very confident with Camilla running with her, and then finished very strongly. Kate didn't look at 100% of her best fitness level, and faded as the race went on, in the past she has run the Gwent for Bath Uni, it was good to have her in the girls team, I'm sure the great performances will come. ..and it was good to see Rich, Nathan, Sean H. and Matt P. going well in their age group race, Rich finished an excellent fourth working very hard - good solid winter work for a track man.
